Course objective

This educational program provides structured professional development for educators and adult trainers, offering the theoretical, practical, and value-based foundations needed to meaningfully integrate Sustainable Development (SD) and Education for Sustainability (EfS) into schools and communities. Through a blend of theory, experiential learning, and hands-on practice, participants are prepared to act as  agents for change, who promote a culture of sustainability in their institutions.

The program introduces the theoretical, historical, and institutional framework of Sustainable Development, with emphasis on the UN’s 17 SDGs and the central role of education in achieving them. It also examines the key aims of EfS in relation to 21st-century skills, highlighting the pedagogical shifts required for modern teaching.

Practical application is a core component. Participants engage with inquiry-based, project-based, and holistic teaching approaches that cultivate critical thinking, collaboration, problem-solving, and responsible decision-making. They also develop skills in designing, implementing, and evaluating sustainability-focused educational activities.

The program further encourages ecological awareness, social responsibility, reflective practice, and leadership for sustainable change. It concludes with the development of a complete teaching scenario or project based on the SDGs, enabling immediate implementation in real educational settings.

It is aimed at education graduates, primary and secondary teachers, adult educators, and VET instructors seeking to enhance their practice through a modern and values-driven approach.
